The Keep Calm and Rock On Experience

"Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent." - Victor Hugo Music influences culture, inspires companionship, and creates tension. To love music is to eternally welcome it into your heart like a significant other. Often compelling, occasionally frustrating, yet forever entwined with your heart. The Keep Calm and Rock On Podcast has launched to provide a roundtable-type platform to discuss the way rock and roll and popular music has moved people for the last 50 years. Through it's creators Angelo, Michael and Jamie, listeners will be led on musical exploration of all topics rock and roll, the familiar and the foreign. Every two weeks, Keep Calm and Rock On will release a new episode that will focus on a rarely explored avenue of rock and roll. KCRO - as the show is sometimes referred to - can be viewed as a metaphysical look into a genre that is normally explored from audio or literary perspectives. Each of the show's hosts is an adult blend of longtime musician and contemporary historian. Join Angelo, Michael and Jamie in their quest to explain the musically unexplainable and attain rock and roll unattainable...The Keep Calm and Rock On Podcast!

KCRO Lite - Easy Love and Marriage

 

On this week's KCRO Lite, Angelo, Jamie and Michael return to the Christino Compound to bring you all of the up to the minute rock and roll headlines in another edition of "Second Hand News". They gang will also address some listener feedback in the segment titled "The Mail Never Stops!" where one of their listeners has a few bones to pick with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This week's artist of the week is Hustle Dunn and the Die Tryin' all the way from the great state of Illinois. And of course, no KCRO Lite would be complete with out a visit from KCRO corespondent Rockin' Bobby Gee, who returns for part II on his "Beneath The Roots" segment celebrating the centenial of Frank Sinatra. Episode 21 - Innovations: The Home Studio

 

On this week's episode, Angelo, Jamie and Michael are back with their second part in a series of discussions, focusing on some of the most important and influential innovations in rock music history. This second installment features the innovation of the home studio. The gang discusses the history of home recording, when it started, how it's grown and how it has affected the recording industry With this advent of home recording, it has given all musical artists, both famous and beginners alike, the ability to be able to record music in the comfort of their own homes with out having to go into a recording studio. Will all three members agree that the home studio has in fact been influential? In today's second segment, it is the return of "Das Boot", the segment where each member of KCRO gives the boot to something or someone in rock and roll. Who gets the boot this week!? The guys will discuss the legacy of the amazingly talented Allen Toussaint. Listener comments and feedback will be reviewed in the segment titled "The Mail Never Stops" and they will showcase a brand new artist of the week from Baltimore, MD, Fake Flowers Real Dirt. Finally, KCRO Correspondent Rockin' Bobby Gee returns with the first of a two part series celebrating the life and career of Frank Sinatra on the eve of his 100th birthday celebration. Episode 20 - Denny Tedesco, Director of "The Wrecking Crew"

 

On today's episode, Jamie, Angelo, and Michael are joined by director and producer Denny Tedesco to talk about his recently released film "The Wrecking Crew" which takes a in-depth look at the lives and careers of the studio musicians who made up the legendary group of session artists in Los Angeles during the late 50s' through the early 1970's know as The Wrecking Crew. Denny and the gang discuss the legacy of these musicians and their incredible impact during the infancy of rock and roll music. Playing on songs by artists like The Beach Boys, The Righteous Brothers, Sonny and Cher, Simon & Garfunkel, The Ronettes, The Mamas and the Papas, and countless others, the musicians that became known as The Wrecking Crew unknowingly influenced every artist that came after them. Musicians like Tommy Tedesco, Carol Kaye, Hal Blaine, and dozens more paved the way for the rock musicians who followed. KCRO Lite - Hangin' with Mr. Kooper Part 2

 

On today's very special KCRO Lite, Angelo, Jamie, and Michael finally get to share the second half of their interview with rock and roll legend Al Kooper. After Part 1 in which Al and the guys discuss his amazing career as a keyboardist, songwriter, band leader, and producer, Part 2 focuses on what Al has been up to over the past 15 years as he discusses a technological advance from the early 2000s that changed his life forever! What is it exactly that Al does every Thursday night at 11:59pm and how did he translate that into a blog called "New Music for Old People" that he ran for over four years? You'll also hear from this week's Artist of the Week, Tennessee Stiffs from Austin, Texas, and as always, Rockin' Bobby Gee is back with another installment of his  "Beneath the Roots", saga, this time with part 2 of the history of folk music.
